LinkedIn can be an unexpected treasure trove đ
âbut for some itâs not working. I explain why.
I accompany clients that have had a massive impact on LinkedIn in terms of reach, engagement that sooner or later often turn into clients.
But I also meet people who have been posting on LinkedIn for months, sometimes even years, without getting the results they desperately wish for.
Why is LinkedIn not working for some people?
In my years as a LinkedIn consultant, Iâve seen many people who are very consistent and dedicated with their posting, but who are becoming more and more frustrated because theyâre not seeing the kind of reach or client enquiries they were hoping for, despite putting so much time and effort into the platform.
Here are 5 reasons why itâs not working:
1ď¸âŁ Pressure and Unrealistic Expectations
Some people expect too much, too quickly, like: âThis post needs to go viral.â đ¤
As a reader, you can almost feel the pressure coming through the words, which can feel off-putting. But the truth is: lightness works better. Once you let go of expectations, things often start to flow more naturally.
2ď¸âŁ Fear and Scarcity Mindset
If thereâs this inner voice: âI need clients now!â
I know as a LinkedIn Consultant that this is not likely going to happen.
LinkedIn works best when you approach it from a place of confidence and stability, not from a place of financial or emotional pressure.
3ď¸âŁ Copying LinkedIn Guru Formulas That Donât Fit
Sorry, not sorry: thereâs no one-size-fits-all formula for LinkedIn. â
If you try to apply someone elseâs formula and feel inner resistance, itâs usually a sign that this approach isnât right for you.
My advice: Trust your gut. If it feels uncomfortable to use someone elseâs framework, your gut is probably right.
4ď¸âŁ If You Secretly Dislike LinkedIn, Itâs Hard to Win
If you secretly think LinkedIn is just full of self-promotion and people showing off, it will be very hard to get the reach and client enquiries youâre hoping for.
Itâs better to approach LinkedIn with a positive mindset, like: âIâm open to exploring what might happen here.â
Without that openness, you might end up sabotaging yourself and not getting the results you want.
5ď¸âŁ Trying to Be Someone You're Not
If you try to become someone you're not, you will probably fail with this strategy in the long term. The people who succeed on LinkedIn are the ones who find their own voice, in a way that feels true to them.
In which cases can LinkedIn be a treasure trove?đ
But of course, I wouldnât be successful as a LinkedIn consultant if there werenât people who achieve great success on the platformâsometimes even far beyond what they ever imagined.
Iâve analysed what makes it work for them, and which types of clients have a particularly high chance of achieving the kind of LinkedIn success they never expected.
â
A Solid Foundation and a Deep Network
Many of the people who succeed on LinkedIn have been in business for years. For them LinkedIn is an addition to what theyâre already doing. Not a last-minute attempt to save a struggling business. They operate from a place of stability, not pressure.
â
Openness to Unexpected Outcomes
They donât put themselves under strict pressure to hit specific targets. Instead, theyâre open to what might emerge: new opportunities, new audiences, even entirely new products. For example, my client Julia Derndinger ended up creating a new offer for an audience she hadnât even targeted originally. Her LinkedIn success was the birth moment for her founder programme, which she still runs successfully today.
â
Visibility at Their Own Pace
Theyâre willing to show upâbut at a pace that feels right for them. They stretch their comfort zone slowly and steadily, which I like to support and guide.
And they also have clear boundaries: not everything needs to be shared publicly and thatâs both good and healthy!
â
Open for Playing and Experimenting
Theyâre not afraid to post something that doesnât perform well. And they know that reach isnât everything: sometimes 200 views are more valuable than 10,000 â if the right person sees it. By experimenting, they discover their own style.
â
Resonance Over Reach
Often, they see positive resonance after just a few posts. Meaningful comments, conversations, and connections â like my client Dom Loehnis, a very established Leadership Coach from London.
If youâre acting from a place of confidence and already have a sustainable business, LinkedIn can be a great platform for you
I think itâs the same principle as in business, or even in life in general: If you want something too much, if youâre pushing too hard: itâs not going to happen.
But if you stop forcing things and just stay open to the opportunities that will come along your way: everything is possible on LinkedIn.
